Revisiting the Image: Year 2

I chose bed side manner for my image of nursing in NSG 202. After reviewing this post, I still feel very strongly about the importance of a nurse’s bed side manner performance. Since bed side manner is one of the most noticeable characteristics in a nurse, I want to express the significance of critical thinking, which is more of a concealed skill. Critical thinking is crucial to being the best advocate for your patient. Every patient will be different, even if the diagnosis is similar, the experiences vary. By using critical thinking, I will be taking the patients factors into consideration while analyzing the data to create to the best solution and care plan for my patient. Some patients and cases will be more complex than others, but I see that as a challenge to expand and strengthen my critical thinking skills. I chose this image above to represent critical thinking because it expresses multiple tools in the mind working together to create an idea, question, connection, or solution. Acts of critical thinking include constructing open-ended questions, defining the problem(s), analyzing data, involving other health professionals to induce new information, and prioritizing the patients’ needs. Critical thinking with decision-making aids in the result of accurate clinical judgement.

Jilly’s image did present the same quality of critical thinking as me. Although we both had different images we both choose critical thinking as our topic of our image of nursing. I think critical thinking isn’t always the first thing people think of when someone says the word nursing but I believe it is one of the most important skills a nurse can have. Her image is a very good representation of the thought processes nursing have to use with every situation that may be faced with on the daily. I think there are many cultural representations of nursing that help shape our ideas of nursing. Some of the biggest one are tv shows, social media, the news, and movies. Critical thinking is represented the most in the news and tv shows.
