Learning Outcome #1

Learning Outcome #1

At the beginning of this semester, I was using revision tactics I had learned in high school, which I have now realized are not as beneficial as I thought. My old revising process consisted of rereading to make sure I had no grammatical errors and making sure all my body paragraphs topics connected to my thesis, which was always in the first or second sentence of my introduction paragraph, and adding in a very basic conclusion that just restated or summarized my essay. After multiple sessions of peer review and revision in this course, I believe I have a solid revision process for my essays. I start by rereading my entire essay and fixing any little mistakes I notice and then I read through all the peer review comments. I am a strong believer that having multiple peer review partners is very beneficial because it gives different perspectives that I can collaborate with in order to make my weak points stronger. Peer review also points out my strengths with positive feedback which is builds confidence and increases motivation. After taking in the peer review comments, I decide how I want to address them and then fix those weak areas. Prior to writing my essays, I create a simple outline of points and ideas I want to express, so I refer back to that outline and see if I have left anything out that I still want to include. I always leave my thesis for last for the reason that when a thesis is created early on, and then followed by multiple different topics and hundreds of words, the thesis may not be as accurate as it was in the beginning so I add it last so it can give a precise idea of what will follow in my essay. My revision process is much more specific now and I know realize how much it is a significant part of writing an essay.
