Learning Outcome #2

Screenshot from my project #1, “Favorite Meal Essay”

The Barclays Formula was introduced to me during this course and at first, I found it difficult to follow but now that I understand it, I realize that it is a useful tool to include in my essays. This highlighted portion of my “Favorite Meal Essay” is my first official attempt at using the Barclays formula. I began my essay with context prior to my first quote with the explanation that food is an important factor in my life. I followed with the quote from my own essay that expresses the significance food holds in my everyday life. In that quote I also mentioned how food is also a symbol of love for my family which leads me into the analysis of my quote. I explained that since food is a symbol of love for my family, it creates an experience when food is involved like when we dedicate a whole summer to tending to our garden and then being able to use our fresh vegetables in a delicious meal that we all get to enjoy together. I end my analysis with the statement, “I cannot imagine giving up all of that to drink Soylent for every meal.” This statement was a transition to my second quote of the Barclays Formula that is stated by Lizzie Widdecombe explaining that Soylent’s creator, Rob Rhinehart, does not want Soylent to take away our traditions of food-based experiences but it should replace all non-nutritional food that lacks value. Looking at this quote alone, I agree with Rhinehart, but I added in that he has contradicted this statement by living solely off Soylent for years. Within this highlighted portion I gave context to my first quote, quoted it, analyzed it, transitioned into my next quote, quoted it and gave context, analyzed it, and then concluded that section.
